This article aims to show the role of translation as a link between languages and cultures. Language is indeed a system of signs, but it is above all a means of communication with others either orally or in writing. The Fact that it is impossible to learn all world languages makes the translation a very important tool. Nowadays, modern research in this field focuses more on teaching and learning translation as a mean of connecting of languages, cultures, communities and research areas. In order to reach this objective, it is necessary not only to involve the activity of the learner himself or herself, but also to have specific methods and techniques to promote translation competence among learners and to improve the teaching and learning process of translation as a subject matter at university.
