The field of adaptation is developing at a rapid pace that we can say that adaptation has become a more collaborative work between writers, producers and screenwriters. Today, some popular and contemporary novels are rewritten into screenplays by their authors. In other cases, these latter are involved in the process even if they are not working on the script like George R.R Martin’s “Game of Thrones”, the corpus that we have selected to work on. In the light of the theory of adaptation, we will focus on the relationship between the written text and the film in the epic fantasy genre to analyse the processes and mainly the characters and the theme(s) of the novel in the encounter between the literary work, the reader, the subtitled film and the spectator and try to answer the question: is adaptation in epic fantasy translated works a loss or a gain?
