In Translation (في الترجمة ) is an international indexed Journal issued annually by Annaba Badji Mokhtar University, Algeria. It is a refereed, double blind peer reviewed journal open for scholars, professors, and officials of translation and other related and associated disciplines, as comparative literature, literary studies, language studies, linguistics, didactics, culture, communication, economy, media, technology, and the like. It is an open access journal, which promotes research and enables users to download its articles free of any charge. In Translation accepts articles in Arabic, English, and French. The Journal is published in both print and online versions. It welcomes unpublished, original and full-length manuscripts that reflect the latest researches and developments of the above cited domains and disciplines. The objective of In Translation is to ensure the widest possible dissemination and visibility of its publications.

We, hereby, inform you that the contributions of the next normal issue (Vol.11, N°2, December 2024) will open on March 1^st, 2024 and end up on September 30^th, 2024.

Investigating the Use of Technological Tools by Algerian Professional Translators and Interpreters

Résumé: Despite the growing availability and advancement of technological tools in the translation and interpreting industry, there is limited research that addresses their adoption and utilization in Algeria. This paper investigates the current state of technology integration within the Algerian professional translation and interpreting landscape. The study follows a qualitative approach, in which the data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with nine professional Algerian translators and interpreters. The results show that translators use various technologies, whereas interpreters depend only on limited tools. Observed issues included a lack of accessibility to paid tools and an absence of alignment between academic training and job market requirements. This paper suggests conducting more research on this topic to address other issues related to the professional context and technology.

Online Simultaneous Interpreting in Algeria: A Brief Description of the Task. (Case study: Focus Group Sessions in Market Research)

الملخص: Interpreters have constantly played a key role in various multilingual environments involving different entities. The sanitary context caused by Covid-19 led to the emergence and the spread of new technical means that allow stakeholders to ensure their communications remotely. As a result, all interpreters required to perform both online interpreting have to be aware of the usual obstacles in order to perform their tasks in line with the guidelines expressed by the source and the target audiences in terms of effective communication, clarity and goal achievement. This paper aims at describing online interpreting by analyzing the methods and the tools that interpreters should take into consideration for such tasks. On the other hand, it illustrates some of the unexpected hurdles that interpreters may have to face via reporting multiple experiments involving multilingual market research sessions in three Algerian cities from March 2020 to May 2023. يؤدي المترجمون الفوريون دورًا حاسما في نقل المعرفة وفي تفعيل الحوارات والتبادلات في بيئات متعددة اللغات التي تشمل فاعلين متعددين، غير أن أدى السياق الصحي الناجم عن جائحة كوفيد-19 إلى ظهور وسائل تقنية جديدة تسمح لأصحاب المصلحة بضمان تواصل متعدد اللغات عن بُعد باستخدام المنصات والبرامج عبر الإنترنت. بهدف هذا المقال إلى وصف عملية الترجمة الفورية عبر الخط في الجزائر من خلال تحليل الأساليب والأدوات التي يجب على المترجمين الفوريين أخذها في الاعتبار لمثل هذه المهام. كما يوضح أيضًا العقبات غير المتوقعة التي يواجهها المترجمون الفوريون من خلال تحليل تجارب متعددة تتضمن حصص دراسات السوق متعددة اللغات في ثلاث مدن جزائرية من ديسمبر 2020 إلى مارس 2023.

le rôle de la théorie cognitive dans l’enseignement de l’interprétation simultanée

Résumé: A travers cette étude nous avons essayé d’étudier à la lumière de la théorie cognitive un aspect de l’enseignement de l’interprétation simultanée à l’université de Badji Mokhtar – Annaba, nous avons sélectionné un groupe de M1 Arabe – Français – Arabe en tant que cas d’étude pour analyser l’apport de la théorie cognitive dans l’enseignement de l’interprétation simultanée en l’absence des technologies propres à cette discipline. Nous avons déduit à travers cette étude que l’apport de la théorie cognitive dans l’enseignement de l’interprétation simultanée est important, notamment dans le début de l’apprentissage, les exercices de Lambert sont en mesure d’assurer une bonne base théorique et pratique en guise d’initiation à la pratique de l’interprétation tout en assurant une simulation du métier même en l’absence des équipements adéquats, ces derniers restent primordial dans les formations spécialisées en interprétation, interprétations simultanée, et interprétation de conférences.

تطور لغة الاقتصاد السياسي في ظل التحولات والأزمات: نحو تصور لتدقيق الترجمة العربية للمصطلحات الاقتصادية الأجنبية

الملخص: ملخص: تهدف الدراسة إلى إلقاء الضوء على أهم المصطلحات الاقتصادية الأجنبية المستحدثة في ظل التحولات والأزمات العالمية، وذلك خلال الفترة 1970-2023، وتقييم مدي دقة ترجمتها في الدراسات الاقتصادية العربية. وقد استخدمنا المنهجين التاريخي والوصفي لاختبار فرضية الدراسة: أن البحوث الاقتصادية العربية لم تستطع التوافق على ترجمة دقيقة وموحدة للمصطلحات الاقتصادية الأجنبية. وأظهرت النتائج غياب التدقيق اللغوي في الترجمة العربية للمصطلحات الاقتصادية الأجنبية المستحدثة، نظرًا لاختلاف المضمون والسياق والتناول والفهم لهذه المصطلحات. فضلًا عن غياب الجهود الممنهجة في بحث مشكلات الترجمة الاقتصادية العربية. وتوصي الدراسة بتوجيه الجهود نحو إحياء كل من "المعجمية Lexicography" وعملية "التعريب Arabization " للمصطلحات الاقتصادية الأجنبية، وذلك من خلال تبني المؤسسات البحثية العربية إصدار "معجم موحد للمصطلحات الاقتصادية"، وخاصة المستحدثة منها. Abstract: The objective of this study is shedding light on the most important foreign economic terms developed in light of global transformations and crises, during the period 1970-2023, and evaluating the accuracy of its translation in Arabic economic research. We used historical and descriptive approaches to test the hypothesis: Arabic economic research was unable to agree on an accurate and unified translation of foreign economic terms. The results revealed the absence of linguistic proofreading in the Arabic translation of newly introduced foreign economic terms, due to the differences in content, context, treatment, and understanding of these terms. In addition to the absence of systematic efforts to discuss the problems of arabic economic translation. Finally, we suggested directing efforts towards reviving both “Lexicography” and “Arabization” process of foreign economic terms, by adopting Arab research institutions the issuance of a “Unified Dictionary of Economic Terms,” Particularly new introduced terms.
