Enhancing Translation Students’ Sight Translation Skills: A Cognitive Approach

Authors : Touil Imane . Benameur Said .

Abstract

This paper sought to explore the impact of cognitive training on students’ performance at sight translation. The methodology consisted of testing out a number of exercises with students in their first year of a Master’s program in translation. Participants were evaluated to allow for a needs analysis, to which an intervention plan was designed and carried out over the course of four weeks. Students were then reassessed, revealing the impact that training had on their performances. The results revealed considerable improvement and suggested a similar approach could help translation and interpreting trainees acquire the cognitive skills necessary for their training in a more systematic way.
