Text, In-text, Pretext: The Question Of Elusiveness And The Problem Of Translation

Authors : Salah Bouregbi .

Abstract

This paper revolves around the problem of translation and the difficulty to transmit, faithfully, the text to be translated. Translation remains an inextricable difficulty. This fact induces the researcher, in this paper, to raise the problem of translation and try to lay bare the real obstacles the translator encounters in dealing with the literary text. To elucidate such problem, the major factors considered as the crux of the matter of translation have been gathered. As a conclusion, it can be said that any translation is supposed to be bad, because it is not faithful to both the artist and the text. Since the work of art carries its own meaning, we can say that what we get as translations are only approximations and attempts.
