Abstract: In this article, we shall present and talk in a descriptive way on the electronic dictionary in terms of two aspects, on the first hand we divide it into two parts: on the one hand the origin of the dictionary in a nutshell. We touch on the most important stages that it went through to the extent of his current form. On the other hand, we mention the most important characteristics of each stage. On the other hand, we talk about the importance of the electronic dictionary in society, either for the teaching or preservation of languages, as well as culture in general and the learning and teaching of various knowledge and sciences.
