Les Origines De La Violence Dans La Société Tunisienne Au Xixème Siècle

Auteurs : Tej Ramzi .

Résumé

The present study delves into the study of a social phenomenon that had characterized Tunisia throughout its modern history, especially from the late eighteenth century to the mid-19th. This period marked the existence of many battles and bloody revolutions, at both local –tribal or external levels. Up to the present day, it has remained deeply rooted in the Tunisian popular memes that have passed down from one generation to the next for its deep impact in reshaping the basics of society. Besides, this paper examines the most important contentious points raised by various experts in philology and related to the concept of violence and specifically inter-communal violence which had been the outstanding feature throughout that period. Two major methods are employed. The historical method helps in the scrutiny of historical issues relevant to the present research and the descriptive method covers the topic from different perspectives, whether the controversial or agreed upon ones. The ultimate aim of this study is to reveal the real reasons that lay behind the prevalence of violence, its pervasiveness into the Tunisian mainstream society and ways used to avoid the repercussions of such a phenomenon on all the marginalized or privileged sectors of the society. Among the results obtained, violence is viewed as a social phenomenon that has emerged because of class antagonism. The latter has continued to destroy societies in general terms and particularly the Tunisian community. Even the causes that fuel violence seem almost alike, over which there is no controversy. But, the divergences over how to cease violence point to ways and techniques that are generally punitive.
