Researchers do not always agree on a shared definition of the concepts: curriculum, syllabus, curriculum development and syllabus design. This disagreement or lack of consensus has contributed in creating certain misconceptions, misinterpretations and consequently a misusage of these concepts among teachers. Hence this article is meant to clarify these concepts to facilitate their understanding and to help teachers and students access the body of knowledge linked to educational research and curriculum theory and, thus ground their decisions about curriculum and syllabus.
