This paper examines the strategies followed by Greek journalists in translating and adapting caricatures from various newspapers and magazines of the French daily press. Focus is on the role the synthesis of semiotics systems – verbal and nonverbal – plays. The study shows that the synergy of these systems, although often based on hyperbole, transforms such caricatures into a semiotic hypersystem of semiotic connotations, characterized by a degree of aggressiveness. Findings also indicate that Greek journalists, when translating, are generally based on the cultural knowledge shared between the two worlds.
