Are EFL/ SLL teachers testing their students right? This legitimate question may not be popular with the Establishment as it questions the whole teaching-learning process. If the inflation of marks, that appears to characterize students’ mark bulletins, cannot be relied upon to evaluate students’ actual uptake and output, then what conclusions can we draw? Most EFL teachers rush into planning and constructing tests without having firm theoretical foundations, which eventually occasions the dreaded backwash/ washback effect. This paper intends to provide insights about in-class TEFL measurements with a view of empowering stakeholders to bridge the gap between curriculum objectives and test format and contents.
