Elucidating The Efl Teachers’ Salient Role In Incorporating Critical Thinking Within The Classroom: The Case Of Efl Teachers At Salhi Ahmed University Centre, Naama

Abstract

The concept of critical thinking has long been the ultimate interest of educators. This study aimed at substantiating the connection between critical thinking and the role of EFL teachers in its implementation. The present research attempts, also, to elucidate the approaches, activities, techniques, and strategies as well that EFL teachers opt for in order to effectively integrate critical thinking within EFL classrooms. Accordingly, this research is based on qualitative and quantitative types of data analysis in which a questionnaire was undertaken. The analysis of the questionnaire revealed that EFL teachers perceive critical thinking to be an outstanding skill to rely on in EFL classrooms. They showed positive inclinations towards the incorporation of such skill in higher education. In addition to that, they tend to include critical thinking both implicitly and explicitly. Besides that, they prioritize creating a student-centered environment while relying on debates, open-ended questions, analyzing information, and the like. لطالما كان مفهوم التفكير النقدي هو الاهتمام المطلق للمعلمين. هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى إثبات العلاقة بين التفكير النقدي ودور معلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية في تنفيذه. يهدف البحث الحالي أيضًا إلى توضيح الأساليب والأنشطة والتقنيات والاستراتيجيات التي يختارها مدرسو اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية من أجل دمج التفكير النقدي بشكل فعال في فصول اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية. وبناءً عليه، يعتمد هذا البحث على الأنواع النوعية والكمية لتحليل البيانات التي تم فيها إجراء استبيان بعد تحليل الاستبيان تبين أن معلمي اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية يرون التفكير النقدي على أنه مهارة متميزة يمكن الاعتماد عليها في فصول اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية. أظهروا ميولاً إيجابيا نحو دمج هذه المهارة في التعليم العالي. بالإضافة إلى ذلك ، فإنهم يميلون إلى تضمين التفكير النقدي ضمنيًا وصريحًا. إلى جانب ذلك ، فإنهم يمنحون الأولوية لإنشاء بيئة تتمحور حول الطالب مع الاعتماد على المناقشات والأسئلة المفتوحة وتحليل المعلومات وما شابه.
