La Comunità Tunisina Di Mazara Del Vallo: Dal Pendolarismo Transfrontaliero Alla Comunità Stabile Di Naturalizzati E Nuovi Arrivati

Abstract

The article analyses the roots of Tunisian community in Mazara del Vallo (Sicily), "the most Tunisian town in Italy", and its development through the decades and through migrants generations. Since 1968 Tunisian fishermen from Mahdia and Chebba came to Mazara to work there as mainly fishermen and farmers, today Tunisian community in Mazara rapresents 6% of the total population. The article focuses on the economic and social conditions of both the starting and arriving places of migration, the changements in the legal migration cadre between the two countries, and its impact on migration migrant's project, to expose our conclusions coming from interviews realised with Tunisian Mazara comunity member from the first, the second and the third generations, about some qualitative changements inside this migrant community concerning identity perception about the country of origin and religion, about the spoken language and so on.
