Over the past six decades, research has multiplied to answer a central question: why do individuals migrate? This article tries to present the main theories most discussed in the literature, essentially Anglo-Saxon, in view of its richness. Some of the theories emphasize the motivations that drive individuals to take this path, while other work highlights the macro-dimension, for example in the European Union’s economic policy, in relation to the differences in levels of development between developed and less developed countries.
