Studying retrial queuing systems presents significant analytical challenges. Results exist for some of these systems while for others there is poor information on them. In addition, the obtained are generally of a complexity that round out their interpretations are restricted in practice. To overcome these difficulties, an approach based on the stochastic decomposition property (SDP) that a model may possess is often used. This property offers the advantages of simplifying the resolution of complex models. Thus, in this work, we first review the stochastic decomposition property of waiting models with vacancies. We will then summarize some of the results on retrial queuing systems. Finally, the conclusion is drawn that some of the problems with retrial queueing models and their resolution can be simplified if they are considered as problems with vacancies models.
