Translation As A Technical Vocabulary Builder In Esp Classes: A Case For The Use Of Translation Activities In Teaching Technical English

Abstract

The present paper aims to investigate the role of translation activities as a comprehensive tool for the acquisition of the technical English to enable learners to successfully complete their specialty courses. First, an overview of the latest research into the implementation of translation activities in the ESP class will be provided. Then, the methodological developments in this area will be explored by focusing mainly on translation activities types, purposes, benefits and factors to consider while preparing them. Toward the end of the paper, a framework of research methodology for teaching technical vocabulary and technical writing will be presented.
