Abstract The current research work examined the effects of the self-regulated strategy development (SRSD), an instructional model designed to teach writing, on improving EFL students’ persuasive writing skills. To achieve such a goal, thirty students at Constantine 1 university received a writing instruction based on the self-regulated strategy development with specific emphasis on planning, setting goals, monitoring and evaluating. In order to collect data, a pre-post test experimental design was used. The comparison and analysis of the pre-test and post-test scores revealed that the SRSD is effective in improving the writing performance of EFL learners.
