The aim of this article is to study the Eugenia Caryophyllata extract (ECE) like a green corrosion inhibitor of steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution (HCl). The extract was obtained by hydro-distillation and then it was characterized by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (GC/MS). Its efficiency was evaluated by electrochemical measurements (linear polarization resistance (LPR) potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) and non electrochemical methods like gravimetry and surface observations by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results revealed that the extract behaves as an effective mixed inhibitor, and that the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing inhibitor concentration. The inhibitor adsorption on the steel surface follows a Langmuir adsorption indicating a monolayer adsorption. This study confirmed the use of ECE in HCl 1 M solution like a green inhibitor.
