Authors : Merdassi Nadjiba . Baghzou Sabrina .

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the cultural content in in-use EFL textbook for fourth year middle school students, which was recently produced as part of the implementation of the Second Generation Programs. Furthermore, it seeks to explore EFL Teachers' perceptions of the role and significance of cultural knowledge in English language instruction. Descriptive content analysis method was used to codify the information of the target textbook. A relevant questionnaire and interview were administered to EFL teachers working in middle schools around Khenchela, and two national education inspectors. Overall, the findings of the textbook analysis suggest that it covers a narrow range of topics. The questionnaire and interview analysis results reveal a number of discrepancies and gaps. Based on the findings, it is possible to conclude that language and culture teacher training programs are essential.
