The article analyzes how ethnic militias shape complex pathways that enable internal,regional and even external actors to privatize conflicts and wars within the African state and Nigeria.It begins by providing a definition of ethnic militias and an overview of their prevalence in Africa,The difference between ethnic militias and pro-government ethnic militias.Then examines the various ways in which ethnic militias contribute to the privatization of conflicts and wars. Finally,it discusses the implications of this phenomenon for peace and security in Nigeria.
