Devout and emotional, written with an earnest pencil whose ultimate aim is to reflect the harsh journey of a young boy born with a genetic facial difference, the cinematic adaptation of Wonder (2017) is a portrayal of the struggles, determination and perseverance of little beings remonstrated as different. Recounting an emotional family drama based on R.J. Palacio’s award-winning novel of the same name, Wonder centres on Auggie Pullman, a young boy born with a severe facial anomaly. Therefore, this essay presents a critically socio-psychological analysis of Wonder (2017). The present paper reflects an awareness about the negative impact that words can have on children and the importance of being kind to prevent aggression through a word, or a gesture. The purpose of this essay is to examine Auggie’s behaviour and psyche in various social contexts, and to portray that social stigma and aggression lead the child to self-stigma.
