Relying on Mona Baker’s work (2011), the present paper, drawing on modern linguistics, discusses problems arising from equivalence and non-equivalence at word level and exploring the common attested strategies for dealing with such a problem. Furthermore, it aims to clarify the process of translation and interpretation at the same level in providing a framework of written translation. The article reached the following conclusions: Translation is a decision-making process; it informs and guides the many key decisions trainee translators have to make.
