Abstract

The aim of the present work is to optimize the operation of the equipment composed of a tribo-charging device associated with a roll-type electrostatic separator. Experimental design methodology was employed to determine the optimum values of the three control variables of the process, which are: the inclination angle of the high-voltage electrode, the applied voltage and the charging duration. The experiments were performed with mm-size particles of Polypropylene (PP) and High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) originated from industrial waste. High separation efficiency (> 92%) was obtained in terms of both recovery and purity.
