الجيش الروماني من الميليشيا إلى الاحتراف

الملخص
يتفق الكثير من الباحثين بأن الجيش الروماني يعد من أحسن النماذج العسكرية تنظيماً في العصر القديم، وهذا مرده إلى المستوى المتقدم والمتطور الذي وصل إليه الرومان مقارنة بالجيوش المعاصرة له، غير أن الصورة التي عرف بها خلال العهد الامبراطوري كجيش محترف ليست تلك التي عرف بها في العهد الجمهوري، فقد كان جيشاً كغيره من الجيوش، لا يقوم إلا في الحرب، حيث يكون المواطن مدنياً وفي نفس الوقت جندياً يستدعى للقتال. بعد توالي الحروب وتوسع روما خارج شبه الجزيرة الإيطالية، استدعى الأمر إبقاء قوات دائمة لحماية المقاطعات الجديدة. فكان من نتائجها هو تهيئة الساحة أمام القادة العسكريين مثل ماريوس وقيصر وأغسطس، لدفع بالجيش نحو الاحتراف وإرساء أسس مؤسسة عسكرية دائمة. في هذا المقال سنحاول معرفة التحول العميق الذي أحدثه الرومان عسكرياً، وفهم معنى الاحتراف العسكري الذي سبقوا به الجيوش المعاصرة لهم. Many researchers agree that the Roman army is one of the best organized military models in the ancient era, and this is due to the developed level that the Romans reached compared to the contemporary armies of it. The republican army, like other armies, was established only in war, where the citizen was a civilian and at the same time a soldier called to fight. After the wars, and the expansion of Rome outside the Italian peninsula, it was necessary to keep ready permanent forces to protect the new provinces. One of its results was to prepare the ground for military leaders such as Marius, Caesar and Augustus, to push the army towards professionalism and lay the foundations for a permanent military institution. In this article, we will try to know the deep military transformation that the Romans brought about, and to understand the meaning of the military professionalism with which they preceded the contemporary armies of them.
