Abstract In an economy in transition to a market economy, the Algerian Small and Medium-sized Enterprises "SMEs" continue to suffer the adverse effects of a difficult business environment. Under these conditions, upgrade programs have been set up to support these SMEs. So, the purpose of this study is to identify success factors for SMEs that have benefited from an upgrade program. To determine these success factors, we adopted a deductive and quantitative research strategy. A questionnaire was developed from pre-validated measurement scales. Data collection was made by Kompass International Company, an Algerian subsidiary. The response rate is around 9%. A process of purification and validation of the questionnaire was done. Data analysis was done by structural equations modelling. This article is the result of a doctoral thesis with the aim of preparing a Ph.D. in administration. Statically, two on eight (2/8) factors are significant. They are production management and marketing management. Keywords: Success factors, the performance of SMEs, tangible and intangible resources, Algerian upgrade programs, resource dependency theory.
