Investigating The Relationship Between Social Avoidance And Distress (sad), And The Learners’ Academic Achievement In The Case Of Tahri Mohamed University Students (algeria) (bechar)

الملخص

The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between foreign language classroom anxiety scores, and the learners' academic performance. It also seeks to know if there is any evidence of a difference between males and females vis-à-vis social avoidance and distress, and their respective scores. To answer these questions, 88 first year LMD students from Bechar department of English were sampled in the study whose analysis was performed by the social avoidance and distress scale. So, an independent samples t-test was run to explore the aforementioned relationships. The findings reveal that there is no significant relationship between the variables mentioned above. Equally, there is no significant difference between males and females in terms of social avoidance and distress. Keywords: social anxiety, social avoidance, students’ performance, social distress
