The linguistic question in Quebec has inherited the ambivalence that has prevailed in its history. Literature has taken hold of the linguistic issue and made it the subject of stories: this is the case of Revenir de loin by Marie Laberge. This article will serve to determine the codification of the urban “reception” space with its norms, values, attitudes and behaviors, as well as to consider language interaction as an impact of speaking contact and an effect on markers of social identity.
Language; social identity; discourse; Quebec; literature.
