Abstract

The current study is aimed to prove the medico-legal accountability of musculoskeletal disorders developed by dentists due to gestures repeated during their professional lives. We conducted an ergonomic study on a public health dentist's workplace over a time period representative of the work period. We first used an over-time activity-measuring software (ACTOGRAM KRONOS), then a semi-quantitative analysis software for the muskuloskeletal disorders of the upper limbs (ERGOROM) to prove the existence of a physical workload on the upper limbs and allow the recognition of these disorders as occupational diseases. The study also allowed us to issue some ergonomic recommendations as to the correct layout of the dental office and the gestures to adopt in order to prevent MSDs.
