Résumé
Une période historique est un laps de temps, de plusieurs années, décennies ou siècles, utilisé par les historiens pour faciliter leurs travaux et productions, selon des critères ou méthodes divers. Les premières périodisations sont à caractère religieux. En effet, c’est la bible qui avait fournit le premier modèle de périodisation. Parallèlement à cette conceptualisation, se mettent en place des théories du progrès: le temps évolue ! Qu’est-ce que périodiser ? Il n’y a pas d’histoire sans date. C’est ce que l’historien doit faire en premier lieu: ranger les évènements dans le temps. Une date en soi ne signifie rien. Il faut savoir ce qu’il y a avant et après. Périodiser, c’est donc construire une période. Périodiser est une construction qui a un sens donné par l’historien. Le cas de l’historien Abou-Kacem Saadallah est très intéressent. Très connu pour son chef-d’œuvre «La montée du nationalisme Algérien» (en arabe). Il était l’un des rares à avoir labouré le terrain de l’histoire culturelle contemporaine de l’Algérie. Selon lui, le nationalisme algérien est d’abord «culturel». Il était né le jour même de l’agression coloniale en 1830 par des réactions culturelles et ensuite politique. Ainsi, le nationalisme Algérien s’est réveillé avec l’avènement de l’agression française de 1830. A historical period is a period of time, of several years, decades or centuries, used by historians to facilitate their work and productions, according to various criteria or methods. The first periodizations are of a religious nature. Indeed, it was the Bible that provided the first model of periodization. At the same time as this conceptualization, theories of progress are being put in place: time evolves! What is periodize? There is no history without a date. This is what the historian must do in the first place: arrange events in time. A date in itself does not mean anything. You have to know what is before and after. To periodize is therefore to construct a period. Periodizing is a construction which has a meaning given by the historian. The case of historian Abou-Kacem Saadallah is very interesting. Well known for his masterpiece "The Rise of Algerian Nationalism" (in Arabic). He was one of the few to have plowed the ground for contemporary Algerian cultural history. According to him, Algerian nationalism is primarily "cultural". He was born on the very day of colonial aggression in 1830 through cultural and then political reactions. Thus, Algerian nationalism awoke with the advent of the French aggression of 1830.
