Abdelkader Djemai's novel "Season of Stones", published in 1986, derives its particularity from the fact that it is based on a discontinuous, hackneyed, disjointed narration so as to pass for a novel where language becomes a nodal place of the search for a writing, an ambiguous, opaque and problematic writing. All forms of narratives follow one another in the course of the chapters in this novel: novels, anecdotes deviations, enumerations, proverbs, aphorisms, considerations about the language and its origins, stories of dreams, hallucinations, brief dialogues like short theater scenes, a sort of tragic tale, reflections on love, life and art. Abdelkader Djemai wants to attract the attention of the reader to transmit to him a vision of the world, he tries to be expressive. Expressiveness is caused by a detour, an accumulation, an acceleration or a break in the message: these are the puns and games on words that allow this author to create new verbal associations using all the resources of language.
