Resumen: Abordar la cuestión de la identidad europea suscita muchas preguntas y debates. En primer lugar, es difícil precisar esta noción. La dificultad reside, por un lado, del hecho que los componentes de la noción de cultura tienen muchos sentidos (polisémica) pero también en el hecho de que puede confundirse con otras nociones vecinas. Por otro lado, esta dificultad surge de la difícil conciliación entre la necesidad de proteger las identidades culturales nacionales de acuerdo con los textos internacionales y europeos, en particular la convención de la UNESCO de 2005 sobre la protección y promoción de la diversidad de las expresiones culturales y el apoyo a una Identidad cultural europea. La pregunta que surge es si podemos apoyar la idea de una identidad cultural europea sin afectar al principio de respeto por la diversidad cultural y, de ser así, qué medidas habrá que tomar para garantizar dicho respeto. Además, si consideramos el área europea como todos los estados de la Unión Europea, podemos argumentar inequívocamente que es un área geográficamente flexible y multicultural. Esta flexibilidad territorial ha permitido ampliar la Unión Europea en determinadas regiones de Europa pero también poder perderla en otras regiones como fue el caso del Brexit aunque el último proceso es excepcional, pero de todos modos posible. El carácter multicultural de este espacio europeo está íntimamente ligado a esta elasticidad geográfica, ya que integraremos o no otras identidades culturales en este espacio. En este sentido, podríamos cuestionar la posibilidad o la imposibilidad de integrar a Turquía en el futuro. Por el contrario, se podría imaginar un aumento de corrientes políticas ultranacionalistas o antieuropeístas en campañas basadas en una tesis de la incompatibilidad de salvaguardar la identidad cultural con la propia filosofía de la construcción europea. Summary: Addressing the issue of European identity raises many questions and debates. Firstly, it's difficult to pinpoint this notion. The difficulty lies, on one hand, in the fact that the components of the notion of culture have many meanings (polysemic) but also in the fact that it can be confused with other neighboring notions. On the other hand, this difficulty arises from the challenging reconciliation between the need to protect national cultural identities in accordance with international and European texts, particularly the UNESCO Convention of 2005 on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the support for a European cultural identity. The question that arises is whether we can support the idea of a European cultural identity without affecting the principle of respect for cultural diversity, and if so, what measures need to be taken to guarantee such respect. Furthermore, if we consider the European area as all the states of the European Union, we can unequivocally argue that it is a geographically flexible and multicultural area. This territorial flexibility has allowed the European Union to expand into certain regions of Europe but also to potentially lose it in other regions as was the case with Brexit, although the latter process is exceptional, but still possible. The multicultural character of this European space is intimately linked to this geographical elasticity, as we will either integrate or not other cultural identities into this space. In this sense, we could question the possibility or impossibility of integrating Turkey in the future. Conversely, one could imagine an increase in ultranationalist or anti-European political currents in campaigns based on a thesis of the incompatibility of safeguarding cultural identity with the philosophy of European construction.
