Teacher’s Intention And Learner’s Attention In An Efl Class

Authors : Saad Torki .

Abstract

This article reports on a study which investigated the issue of a possible mismatch between teaching and learning languages through investigating whether there is compatibility between what is intended to be taught and what is attended to. Attention is seen as a mediating variable between input and intake with a special interest in the aspects of lexis (the phonological, mrpho-graphological, and semantic aspects) defined as pronunciation, spelling and meaning. Moreover, tow possible explanatory variables were considered: the frequency of occurrence of lexical items in classroom discourse and the order of occurrence of lexical items in classroom discourse.
