ملخص: موضوع هذه الورقة هو رؤى "إيان جورج كنيسون" حول الدور المتوقع للأنثروبولوجيا في عملية التنمية في السودان وغيره من البلدان النامية، والعلاقة بين علماء الأنثروبولوجيا والإداريين في هذا الخصوص. تبرز هذه الرؤى في مقالات ثلاث كتبها في فترة عمله بجامعة الخرطوم. والورقة تستخدم صلاته بالأنثروبولوجيين المهتمين بالسودان، وسيرته الذاتية، وتجربته البحثية، واهتماماته النظرية في فهم رؤاه في هذه المقالات. وهي تنظر إليه كأحد الباحثين المحترفين الذين كانوا جزءًا من توظيف الأنثروبولوجيا لأغراض الحكم، والتي بدأت في السودان عام 1909 كدعوات من الحكومة الاستعمارية إلى هؤلاء الباحثين لإجراء أبحاث على بعض القبائل. وتبيِّن الورقة كيف أن نمط الأبحاث الأنثروبولوجية المهنية، الذي ساد في تلك الفترة، تغير مع قدوم كنيسون إلى السودان، وبذلك تكشف نقاط التحول الرئيسية في تطور الأبحاث الأنثروبولوجية في السودان. Abstract: This paper addresses Ian George Cunnison's views on the anticipated role of anthropology in the economic development in Sudan and other developing countries and the relationship between anthropologists and administrators in this regard. These views feature in three articles he wrote during his tenure at Khartoum University. The paper uses his links to other Sudanist anthropologists and his biography, research experience, and theoretical interests in understanding his views in these articles. It considers him as one of the professional researchers who were part of the utilization of anthropology for governance purposes, which began in Sudan in 1909 as invitations by the colonial government to these researchers to conduct research on some tribes. The paper shows how the pattern of professional anthropological research, which prevailed in that period, changed with the arrival of Cunnison to Sudan and thus detects the main turning points in the development of anthropological research in Sudan.
