Resumen: El indigenismo peruano es un movimiento artístico que tuvo un gran papel en la independencia de Perú la defensa de la identidad indio-peruana. A partir del siglo XIX, seguidores de este gran movimiento pretendieron valorar el indio peruano para producir una literatura contemporánea basada en lo fantástico y manifestada de modo escrito. Por consiguiente, esta recuperación ha sido encabezada por varios escritores muy importantes y cabe mencionar entre ellos a Ciro Alegría con su obra El Mundo Es Ancho y Ajeno. Sin embargo, este comienzo se considera humilde porque los escritores se inspiraban al principio de unos precursores que se basaron en el análisis del indio mediante historias de amor y de luchas. Después, otros escritores como Valcárcel perfeccionaron el uso anterior del indigenismo con el afán de modernizarlo. Abstract: Peruvian indigenism is an artistic movement that played a great role in the independence of Peru, defending the Indian-Peruvian identity. Starting in the 19th century, followers of this great movement attempted to value the Peruvian Indian in order to produce a contemporary literature based on the fantastic and manifested in writing. Consequently, this recovery has been spearheaded by several very important writers, including Ciro Alegría with his novel El Mundo Es Ancho y Ajeno. However, this beginning is considered humble because the writers were initially inspired by precursors who were based on the analysis of the Indian through stories of love and struggle. Later, other writers such as Valcárcel perfected the previous use of indigenism with the aim of modernizing it.
