An Introspective Stance On Est Graduates' Learning Needs In Tlemcen University, Algeria

Authors : Meziani Somia .

Abstract

The learner needs and present situation analysis is a paramount step in the ESP Needs Analysis process. The introduction of different technological means to the ESP setting invites investigation into the current state of courses, tools, materials, and activities. The study involved 43 students from the University of Tlemcen, both Electronics and Industrial Engineering First-year Master's classes. A questionnaire was administered investigating: learning needs, language activities, learning tools, and materials’ rating. The study finds that EST courses were conducted in online settings, using forums and promoted conversations. The course consisted of speaking and listening activities. The students were satisfied with the teacher and peers' involvement during online courses. The study highlights limitations concerning the relevancy of the materials, and students' satisfaction with materials and assessments. The reiteration of the issues of perceived mastery of both English and subject matter expertise by the instructors warrants further research. The findings invite a properly NA-driven course to help mend the gap in learners’ satisfaction.
