A Postmodern Reading Of Global Capitalism In Don Delillo's Cosmopolis

Abstract
Abstract This article attempts to look at the nature of the relationship between the triad globalization, capitalism, and postmodernism. The three concepts, being the buzz components of the current socio-economic scene, are useful ingredients for a literary study. The article takes as a case study Don DeLillo's postmodern novel Cosmopolis (2003) which is seen as a successful representation of the new millennium transformations and the effects of an ever-increasing worldwide interdependence, both on personal as well as societal levels. ملخص نحاول من خلال هذا المقال النظر إلى طبيعة العلاقة الموجودة بين العولمة، الرأسمالية وما بعد الحداثة. المفاهيم الثلاثة، كونها المكونات البارزة للمشهد الاجتماعي الاقتصادي الحالي، هي عناصر مفيدة لدراسة أدبية. يتناول هذا المقال دراسة رواية للكاتب و المنظر دون دوليلو المعنونة Cosmopolis (2003) التي ينظر إليها على أنها تصوير ناجح لتحولات الألفية الجديدة ولآثار الترابط العالمي المتزايد. يبرز الكاتب من خلال روايته مدى تأثير هذه التحولات على المستوى الشخصي و الاجتماعي. Résumé Cet article tente d’examiner la nature des relations entre la triade mondialisation, capitalisme et postmodernisme. Les trois concepts, qui sont les composantes dynamiques de la scène socio-économique actuelle, sont des ingrédients utiles pour une étude littéraire. L'article prend pour exemple le roman postmoderne de Don DeLillo, Cosmopolis (2003), qui est perçu comme une représentation réussie des nouvelles transformations du millénaire et des effets d'une interdépendance mondiale, tant au niveau personnel que sociétal.
