Study Of The Lifespan Of Buried Structures Using The Weibull Approach - Case Of The Gz1 Gas Pipeline "hassi R’mel - Arzew"

Authors : Houari Ali . Benzenine Hamidou .

Abstract

The steels of pipelines for the transport of hydrocarbons are stressed by damage phenomena, particularly by corrosion by soils. After detection of these failures by non-destructive testing such as ultrasound or by magnetic flux, the remaining time must be evaluated by a probabilistic approach. This work consists in evaluating the remaining service life of corroded pipes by Weibull approach over a distance of 70km from the GZ1 line. Inspection results showed peak corrosion depths with a rate of 10-30% of the thickness and two areas damaged by corrosion with a rate exceeding more than 70%. The different reliability parameters namely reliability function, failure function, failure rate, rated life and MTBF from MATLAB computer code were also determined and discussed.
