The aim of this investigation concerns the effect of martensite morphology on the corrosion behaviour of dual phase microstructure obtained by intermediate quenching (IQ) and step quenching (SQ) of X52 low carbon micro alloyed steels. The IQ treatment results in formation of fine martensite morphology uniformly distributed in the ferrite matrix. In contrast, SQ treatment yields blockly and banded martensite and ferrite morphology. Corrosion resistance was measured by weight loss in 1 N HCl- H2SO4 and H3PO4 acid solution. The experimental results show that steels with banded microstructures are likely to corrode faster than the steels with finely dispersed microstructures. A carefully conducted comparison of the weigh loss mesurment of the representative samples obtained after immersed in desired acid.
