Microfinance as a mechanism to achieve the first goal of the Third Millennium Development Goals to reduce extreme poverty and hunger in developing countries After that microfinance has become one of modern trends in development and poverty reduction in developing countries through the involvement of the poor themselves in the development process. And after the great international recognition of the importance of microfinance to the extent that it has been allocated 2005 to be the Year of Microcredit by the United Nations, and after the award of the Nobel Peace Prize a year later to the Grameen Bank and its founder Muhammad Yunus, who is the pioneer of modern microfinance movement in the world. We wonder whether microfinance is already an effective tool for the development in developing countries? and Can it really contributes to the achievement the first goal of the third Millennium Development Goals to reduce extreme poverty and hunger
