الملخص
ظلت العلاقات الجزائرية الأمريكية المعاصرة في حالة توتر خلال العقدين اللذين أعقبا استقلال الجزائر، رغم بعض المصالح الاقتصادية التي كانت قائمة بينهما، فبينما كان توتر علاقات البلدين محكوم بالمصالح الاقتصادية منذ نهاية القرن السابع عشر بسبب نشاط البحرية الجزائرية ضد السفن الامريكية في البحر المتوسط ، ظل التوتر في علاقات البلدين المعاصرة محكوم بالمصالح السياسية أولا ، فرغم اعتراف الولايات المتحدة باستقلال الجزائر -ردا على اعتراف الجزائر باستقلالها عن التاج البريطاني عام 1776م - ومسارعة كيندي الى تهنأتها عام 1962م، وفتح سفارة لها في الجزائر في سبتمبر من نفس السنة، الى أن تعارض مواقف البلدين من القضايا الدولية، ومن التطورات السلبية للقضية الفلسطينية بين سنوات1967م و1973م، ووقوف البلدين على طرفي نقيض من أطرافها، أدى الى توتر علاقاتهما حد قطعها عام1967م، ولم تستأنف إلا عام 1974م . Contemporary Algerian-American relations remained in a state of tension during the two decades following the independence of Algeria, despite some economic interests that existed between them. While the tension in the two countries' relations was governed by economic interests since the end of the seventeenth century due to the Algerian navy activity against American ships in the Mediterranean, the tension remained In the contemporary relations of the two countries are governed by political interests first, despite the United States ’recognition of Algeria’s independence - in response to Algeria’s recognition of its independence from the British crown in 1776 CE - and Kennedy's haste to congratulate it in 1962, and open an embassy for it in Algeria in September of the same year, until it opposes the two countries’ positions. From international issues, and from the negative developments of the Palestinian issue between the years 1967 AD and 1973 AD, And the two countries' standing at opposite ends of their sides, led to tension in their relations to the extent that they were severed in 1967 AD, and did not resume until 1974 AD.
