Le décès maternel est l’un des événements malheureux qui légitiment chez le veuf, la décision de faire un nouveau départ. Toutefois, la décision d’émigrer suite à un décès maternel, semble être à l’encontre des efforts familiaux consentis généralement pour déclencher des mécanismes de réintégration des membres de la famille en deuil. Le présent article ambitionne d’analyser le processus de la prise de décision d’émigration par un veuf (Tariq), suite au décès maternel de sa défunte épouse. L’étude du cas a mis en exergue que les déterminants de l’émigration sont à la fois individuels, familiaux et institutionnels. Le décès maternel et ses circonstances ont agi en tant que briseurs de liens familiaux. Ils ont notamment favorisé la crise de confiance vis-à-vis des institutions de prise en charge (hôpitaux, police et autres), et la fragilisation des liens « locaux », au moment où les liens sociaux transnationaux à distance ont démontré plus d’attractivité. Abstract Maternal death is one of the unfortunate events that legitimize the widower's decision to make a fresh start. However, the decision to emigrate following a maternal death seems to run counter to family efforts generally made to trigger mechanisms for the reintegration of grieving family members. This article aims to analyze the process of decision to emigrate by a widower (Tariq), following the maternal death of his late wife. The case study highlighted that the determinants of emigration are at the same time individual, family and institutional. The maternal death and its circumstances acted as breakers of family ties. They notably favored the crisis of confidence vis-à-vis the care institutions (hospitals, police and others), and the weakening of "local" ties, at a time when transnational social ties at a distance demonstrated more attractiveness.
