Till now, the debate is always animated between theorists and critics about what’s more important in drama the plot or the character. Most of them - except Aristotle and William Archer – think that the character has the first position in the drama because he is the source of the action. This article analyses the characters in a play written by Abou Elaid Doudou (1970), colled “El Bachir”. This analysis was made using Philippe Hamon method, which is explained in his book ‘for an semantic status of character’, where he devides the character to three categories: ‘personnages référentiels’ who correspond to people in the outsid world (historical figure ,social types); ‘personnages embrayeurs’ characters who serve as the spokesperson for the author, and ‘personnages anaphores’, who have a cohesive function in organizing a given text.
