Equity In Higher Education: Towards A Further Inclusion Of Learners With Disabilities

Abstract

Increasing numbers of Algerian individuals with disabilities are pursuing higher education in order to achieve satisfying careers and sustainable earnings. However, these learners face numerous challenges which can prevent them from completing their degree program. Taking this into consideration, the present research sought to explore their perceptions of the learning environment and the obstacles that they face on the premises of the Algerian higher education institutions. This work also reports their recommendations on how to create an ideal learning context using a biographic-narrative research design. The results of this study highlight hurdles that these learners have to deal with and provide a set of suggestions to make Algerian higher education a real reference of excellence for learners with disabilities.
