Social and environmental responsibility has become a major concern of international institutions and economic organizations as it is considered a performance indicator, which is no longer confined to the financial side but it exceeds to the contribution of the institutions in the society welfare, sustainable development and environment preservation. So all their decisions have to be socially responsible. Considering the importance of the banking sector in economic development, the current study aims to diagnose the reality of the local and foreign banks working in Algeria and to what extent they adopt social and environmental responsibility through their performed activities towards the community, the environment, shareholders, employees and customers. The study is based on a survey of group of banks operating in Ouargla in order to reach the results that contribute to the improvement of their environmental and societal performance to step up to the leading banks in this field.
