Abstract Sociological works are most of the times based on what we could call « classical »methods : interviews, direct observation, etc. Only a few choose to rely on historical investigations. This article will nevertheless try to show 1) that history and sociology are two disciplines that share the same epistemological basis, 2) that history can be of use to the sociologist and shade a new light on some problems of our time, and 3) that hecan legitimately, under certain conditions, investigate on a « paperfield».
