In this article, we looked at the reality of the development of the MENA financial sectors. Through an analysis by indicators followed by construction of a composite index of financial development, our results show large disparities in the financial systems of these countries. The construction of a composite index of financial development (IDF1or IDF2) for the 21 MENA countries allowed us to highlight major differences between financial development levels and reveals a great dissimilarity between these countries. It turns out that the non-oil countries have more developed financial systems (Lebanon, Malta, Israel, Jordan), while the oil exporting countries have the most underdeveloped financial systems in the region (Iraq, Libya, Yemen, Algeria).
